Brampton: A Brief History
Brampton takes its name from the rural town of Brampton in Cumbria, England. Brampton was incorporated as a village in 1853 and by 1869, it was in the County Town of Peel. It was only in the year 1974 that the new city of Brampton was created from the Townships of Chinguacousy and Toronto Gore. In the 1980s, due to a huge demand for new homes in Brampton, large swathes of land were sold to the developers. The constant influx of immigrants over the years, coupled with good employment opportunities has contributed to Brampton’s development, making it one of the fastest growing Canadian cities.
